The only daughter of a freighter engineer turned owner, Trista and her brother Dylan spent most of their childhood aboard the ship, being homeschooled by their mother. When she was around 3 or 4, Trista who had been given a blue flower by a crew member which was brought back from a survey mission, went to show her father who was in the middle of fixing the transporter. She managed to trip onto the transporter pad as it activated, being pulled into the matter stream along with the flower in her hand. When she rematerialized the flower was gone and her hair had turned a very particular shade of blue. The cross of the plant DNA with her own, means she is no longer fully human but not enough of anything else to be categorized as anything but. She has a slight sensitivity to sunlight, and usually if out in sunshine for long will become rather hyper and energized, she also has an affinity for finding water in the strangest of places. The mix also damaged her eyesight just enough for her to need glasses or some sort of corrective lenses as she is allergic to Retinax 6. It also sometimes makes even the most treatable illness or wound tougher on her.
Even though she and her brother had been home schooled her brother managed to be accepted into the Starfleet Academy, and was eventually assigned as an ensign Engineer on The Melbourne. When Trista was 20 word came that the Melbourne had been sent to Wolf 359 and was destroyed by the Borg. She lost her best friend and became a much more withdrawn young woman. When she was 21 the Captain of the freighter ship she had always known as home retired and sold the ship to her father who had it for a year before the Cardassians destroyed it during a routine run. Trista was planet side on Ronara Prime at Stebbins University where she was studying botany. Devastated by the news she turned to drinking and it was in a bar where she ended up being recruited into the Maquis when a Cardassian walked in and Trista in an angry drunk state attempted to take off his head with her hands.
7 years of fighting for the Maquis cause has left Trista jaded, angry, and often sarcastic. Though often outnumbered by the male crew she works with she is never one to back down from a fight and her lack of tact often leads her to argue with others, be they of higher rank or not. While she is usually loyal to her crew and Captain, she will stand up for what she thinks is right, whether that be against orders given to her or not.
